A Little More About Me…
I’ve now spent nearly 17 years working as a health journalist, and I’m currently writing my first book on the link between wellness misinformation and extremism. But when I first began reporting on the health beat, I considered myself to be an unlikely candidate for the job.
I took a mandatory P.E. credit in college (Syracuse University, where I majored in magazine journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications) — no more, no less. But shortly after graduating, three things happened simultaneously: my father went through a major health event; I quit smoking and picked up running; and a health editor position opened up at my job. My interest in the topic happened to coincide with the rise of “wellness” as a cultural phenomenon. Since then, I’ve reported on everything from turmeric lattes and Pilates to COVID-19 and the post-pandemic mental health crisis. The industry has changed rapidly, and I’ve never had a dull day at work.
During my time on staff at PS, Refinery29, Shape, and First for Women, I've felt fortunate to work with a huge number of brilliant experts and writers in the health and wellness space. It's a dynamic, ever-changing field and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
